Prayers Go out to Knox
« on: October 11, 2011, 09:37:53 AM »

My thoughts and prayers go out from everyone in the Pride of Plymouth band to the students at Knox and the Redskin Brigade.

We are all so very very sorry for your loss.  Our entire band had a moment of silence this morning in honor of Drew.  He was such an outstanding kid, musician, and a wonderful drum major and role model for everyone in the Knox band.

Everyone at Plymouth will be thinking about you guys this week and praying for a Regional performance that brings glory to Drew's memory.

Know that we will be thinking of you guys all week and hoping that you are able to pull together as a team and a band to support each other as a band family.

Sincerely,
Bryan Ames
Pride of Plymouth Band
(former Knox Band Director)
It is not whether you win or lose, but how well you played the game.

My God, this is just AWFUL AWFUL news. My heart is very heavy right now for the entire Knox band program, as well as the friends and family of this incredibly amazing student. Such a tragedy and loss that is so very very sad.

Our entire staff is mourning with you guys right now, keep your heads up and continue on in Drew's memory. We'll be praying for you.

God bless.  :'(

My thoughts and prayers are with Drew's family, band family, and everyone in the Knox community. Before reading this, I had just read Drew's own post from yesterday morning about how happy he was with their performance this past weekend. I'm at a loss for words now.

This year has been a rough one on the band community. I'll be at Chesterton this weekend giving all my support to Knox.

Agree whole-heartedly with the thoughts and prayers to Knox and the band program. I hate to plead ignorance - but what happened? Is there a link to a news story with details that we dont have to mention on here? Thanks and Godspeed to Knox!

From what was said to the band this morning, he was driving home from work and fell asleep behind the wheel.

My prayers are for sure going to the Knox band and the school in general.   :'(

Thanks Bryan for the link - tragic story. All our thoughts and prayers out to Knox. Scores and Placings dont seem as important now. May the marching band community truly band together in support. :'(

If you go to the website link listed above, scroll down on that website about 5 stories.  You will see a previous story printed about Drew winning the IMEA Young Composers competition and the fact that the Lafayette Jefferson Wind Ensemble premiered his composition.  The piece (and Drew) received a 2 minute standing ovation.

We have spoken about the situation with the students in the Northwestern Band, and the students asked that we pass along condolences to Drew's family, and of course all of his friends in the Knox Band.

Dan and I spoke with students at John Glenn about this tragedy. Some students shared with us that they spoke to Drew Saturday at the Plymouth competition. They commented on how personable and genuine he was. We are all very sorry for the loss of such a talented and gifted young man. Stay strong Redskin Brigade!

Adam -

My drum majors expressed the same thing - they are devastated that they just spent a great deal of time with Drew on Saturday and now he has passed away.

In times like these, it is important for us all to remember how precious the time we have is, and how wonderful of an activity this 'marching band' thing is that we are fortunate to get to participate in, where we can put competition aside and support other groups of teenagers doing the same thing we are doing.
